After a dominant 2021 regular season, the women's soccer team has earned the top-seeded spot in the NCCAA DI South Region Tournament. Semifinal games begin Wednesday evening at Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida.
"The team is excited to be competing at the NCCAA DI regionals as the #1 South Region seed," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "There are four strong teams and this will be a very competitive tournament. Right now our only focus is on our game against Carolina University which will be a tight match as they have been playing very well."
The Bruins enter the tournament after recording their best record in program history ending the regular season 17-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in region play. It's been two weeks since their last match on November 2 where they played through double overtime to a 0-0 draw against Erskine College.
They will face #4 Carolina University in the semifinals on Wednesday at 5 p.m. for another battle of the Bruins. Carolina University finished the regular season with a 10-8 record. Both Bruins squads last met on October 13 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where BJU was able to come away with a 6-2 victory. The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to the championship match on Friday, November 19 and will face off against the winner of the Warner University/Carolina International University match.
"We have had several strong weeks of training, and we have the whole team on the same page tactically as far as how we are going to play. We're coming into these games with a lot of confidence," said Carmichael.
The Bruins have won five NCCAA DII titles (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019), but look to take home their first title in Division I.
