The women's basketball team made their way to Michigan to face Grace Christian University where they were unable to break though the Tigers defense and fell 61-91. The Bruins are now now 2-5 on the season having lost their last four games. Delaney Edwards led the Bruins with 16 points and Shea Dickinson recorded an impressive 14 rebounds.
Head Coach Mike LeViere summed up today's game in one sentence, "our defense was soft and theirs wasn't."
He went on to say that "it took us too long to adjust to the physical play and by the time we did, the game was out of reach. I felt like we could have folded and quit but we didn't. The ladies showed a lot of character by fighting through the rough play and adjusting. We just took too long to do it."
The Bruins came into today's game after falling to Campbellsville Univeristy Harrodsburg on Friday. The Tigers came in on a two-game losing streak after falling on Friday to Aquinas College. As the two teams met on the court, the Bruins looked for revenge as the Tigers knocked them out of the NCCAA DII National Tournament last season.
Gracen Ledford would starting the scoring, but the Tigers would get a 6 point advantage early on before Ledford would record 5 more to bring the Bruins within three points. The Tigers would go on a scoring streak and the first quarter would end with the Bruins down by 12 points.
The scoring continued for the Tigers in the second quarter and would go up by 25 points before the Bruins started chipping away at their lead. At halftime the score was 32-50 in favor of the Tigers.
As the third quarter got underway, Bethany Daulton would assist teammate Tamrah Konieczka in a three-pointer. The Tigers continued pressing past the Bruins defense, but the quarter would end with points by Tamrah Konieczka, Shea Dickinson and Delaney Edwards.
The Bruins kept fighting at the start of the fourth quarter with Dickinson and Konieczka sinking a couple of three pointers, but ultimately weren't able to claw out of their deficit and fell 61-91.
Delaney Edwards was 6 for 6 with free throws and lead the Bruins with 16 points in today's game with Gracen Ledford right behind with 15 points. Shea Dickinson recorded 14 rebounds against the Tigers.
The Bruins make the short trip from Grand Rapids to Lansing, Michigan to face Great Lakes Christian College tomorrow evening at 5 p.m.
