Bruins Drop Both Games Against St. Andrews University in Tuesday Doubleheader

It was a tough day on the field as the Bruins dropped both games on Tuesday afternoon. The team fell to St. Andrews University 19-1 and 12-0 in their doubleheader in Laurinburg, North Carolina. With today's losses, the Bruins fall to 2-13 overall this season.

"St. Andrews is patient at the plate, and they took our pitchers deep into the count running our pitch count up and waiting for a pitch that they could square up," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "We had a few good hits but struggled to hit when it counted. The combination of the two resulted in a bad day for us."

The Bruins entered Tuesday's games after 5-4 win over Covenant College on Friday. It was a 5th inning rally as five runs were scored late in the game for the Bruins to come back at take the game. St. Andrews came into today's game after a three-game series at Reinhardt series on Sunday and Monday where they went 2-1.

As the game got underway, Conley Burk and Zach Burk each singled to get on base, but the Bruins couldn't get anything else going at the top of the first inning.

At the bottom of the first inning, the Knights would get off to a commanding lead, scoring six runs.

The top of the third inning, the Bruins were able to get on the board after a single from Zach Burk would allow Colby Hogan to score one for Bob Jones. St. Andrews would go on to score 13 more runs as the Bruins fell 19-1 in the first game of the day.

After a quick break, game two would get underway in Laurinbug, North Carolina. The top of the lineup for the Bruins hoped to get things started offensively, but despite some good hits, weren't able to get on base. At the bottom of the first inning, Kris Allen of the Knights hit a home run out of left field. This was the start of three runs scored in the first.

At the top of the 6th inning, with the Bruins down 11-0, things looked promising as Daniel Barcena singled to allow Conley Burk to advance to third base. But as Daniel Wood went up to bat, he'd hit it to the shortstop who would give the Bruins their third out of the inning.

Despite some good looks, the Bruins were shutout in their second game of the day falling 12-0.

Next up, the Bruins will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina as they take on NCCAA opponent Carolina University for a three-game weekend series.
