Bruins Drop Back to Back Games Against Screaming Eagles in Saturday Doubleheader

The Bruins dropped both games on Saturday afternoon as the team fell to Toccoa Falls College 11-1 and 7-4 in their doubleheader. With the losses, the Bruins fall to 1-10 on the season and 1-6 in region play.

"We beat ourselves today," Bruins Head Coach Brent Casteel said. "Our pitching came in and didn't do a bad job but we didn't support them defensively and with our bats. That's really all we can say about it. We had the ability to get it done but we didn't."

The Bruins came into the game on the heels of a 2-1 win on Friday night over Toccoa Falls. Henry Wallach pitched a complete game for the team as the Bruins picked up their first win of the season. The team hoped to continue their winning ways as they took the field on Saturday with Josh Legnard pitching in the first game of the doubleheader.

Caleb Adams got things going for the Screaming Eagles in the top of the first as he singled home a run to make it 1-0. Toccoa Falls then blew the game open in the 2nd as the team scored seven runs to push their lead to 8-0.

The Bruins tried to rally but continued to miss key opportunities at key moments in the game. The Bruins were able to muster just one run as Zach Burk singled home Conley Burk in the 6th inning as the Bruins fell 11-1 in the first game of the doubleheader.

In game two of the day, the Bruins would look to Zach Burk on the mound as the team hoped to close out the weekend and the series with a win. Again the Screaming Eagles took the early lead as Charlie Compton singled home a run to make it 1-0. Toccoa would add two more runs as they held a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the third.

The Bruins chipped away at the lead as Zach Burk doubled to score Colby Hogan and make it 3-1. After Toccoa battled back to get a run in the top of the 4th, Riley Ramsey launched a three-run bomb over the left field wall to tie the game at 4-4.

The Bruins had grabbed momentum and looked to pull away late for the win. Unfortunately, it didn't happen as the Screaming Eagles took a 5-4 lead off a double from Charlie Compton before scoring two more runs in the 7th to take a 7-4 lead.

The Bruins tried to rally in the bottom of the 7th as Zach Burk and Cole Pearson each singled but a double-play by Toccoa Falls ended the rally as the Bruins fell 7-4.

"We continue to wait for opportunities instead of going and getting them," Coach Casteel said. "We need to go out and play the way we know we are capable of. We've been down and we've come back but we need to go after it and create those opportunities. If we do that we will be better off."

Zach Burk led the Bruins on the day recording four hits while driving in two RBI's. In game two, he also pitched 6.2 innings for the team. Next up, the Bruins will be back home on Tuesday as they welcome Truett-McConnell University to Conestee Park.
