Henry Wallach pitched his second complete game of the season as the Bruins baseball team opened their weekend series with Toccoa Falls College with an 8-3 win on Friday afternoon in Toccoa, Georgia.
"I am so proud of these guys today," Bruins Head Coach Brent Casteel said. "Life is all about following a process, God's process, even in the game of baseball. These guys are learning that process and applying it and good things are happening."
The Bruins and Screaming Eagles met earlier in the season with Toccoa Falls winning two of three games at Conestee Park in Greenville. The Bruins were looking to bounce back after suffering a loss to Maryville College on Tuesday.
The Bruins struck first as Daniel Barcena launched a two-run homerun to give the team a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning. The Bruins would add another run to increase their lead to 3-0.
Defensively, Henry Wallach continued to pitch well on the mound and he got great backup as the Bruins continued to work themselves out of innings and keep the lead.
In the 4th inning, the Screaming Eagles began to chip away at the lead as a triple to begin the inning sparked a two-run inning for Toccoa but the Bruins still led 4-2. Cole Pierson then extended the lead for the Bruins with a two-run homerun in the top of the 5th as the Bruins led 6-2.
Over the next innings the Bruins would keep adding to their lead as they took an 8-3 lead into the 8th inning. Wallach continued to execute great control over his pitches while the Bruins defense came up with key plays to end the inning. Toccoa Falls tried to spark one last rally but the Bruins wouldn't be denied as the team won the series opener 8-3.
Next up, the Bruins will be back in action against Toccoa Falls on Saturday as the teams will play a doubleheader with the first game of the day beginning at 12 p.m.
