The Bruins hustled hard in extra innings to score the most runs in program history and come away with a 17-12 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. With tonight's win the Bruins have improved to 6-21 on the season.
"The boys showed up tonight," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "Every time they had the opportunity to battle they answered the call. I am so proud of them!"
The Bruins made the trip to Elizabeth City, North Carolina to take on Mid-Atlantic Christian University for the first time. Coming into this game, Bob Jones would look to get back into the win column after falling in the third game of last weekend's series over Paine College.
As the game got underway, an RBI single from Zach Burk would give the Bruins the 1-0 lead.
After three innings of play, the Bruins would see themselves down 5-6. But a two-run homer at the top of the fourth from Daniel Barcena put the visiting team right back on top. With one out on the board and the bases loaded, Isaiah Brandt stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam extending the lead to 11-6 for the Bruins.
The Mustangs began chipping away at the Bruins lead and in the seventh inning they came back to tie the game.
A sac-fly from Riley Ramsey in the top of the ninth would give the Bruins a one-run lead, but the Mustangs would once again come back and tie the game 12-12 after nine innings.
As the game went into extra innings, the Bruins went into overdrive scoring five runs in the 10th inning to pull out the 17-12 win. Isaiah Brandt led the Bruins with a grand slam and six RBI.
The two schools are back in action tomorrow with a noon start to a Saturday doubleheader.
