Starting off the final week of regular season play, the Bruins fell 15-7 to Brevard College tonight from Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina. After eight games on the road, the Bruins were back home to face the Tornados for the first time in program history. With tonight's loss, the Bruins sit at 7-28 on the season.
"We were all hopeful for a better outcome tonight," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "But I can't be more proud of the guys for not quitting or giving up. We just need to keep working on getting the runners pushed around the base path. We left a lot of runners on base, and we're doing that quite often. We've been working on a lot of things to make runs happen, and we need to learn to finish. Once we accomplish that, it's going to push us along."
In the first meeting between the two schools, the Bruins would get on the board first with an RBI single from Cole Pearson in the bottom of the first inning. Brevard would get their scoring back with a two-run homer in the next inning bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of the Tornados.
Bob Jones answered in the bottom of the second off of a single from Riley Ramsey. The Bruins looked for the go ahead run with runners in scoring position on second and third, but with two outs on the board Cole Pearson struck out swinging to end the inning knotted at two.
The Tornados increased their lead by four runs before the Bruins could get one back in the fourth.
Heading into the final inning of Tuesday's contest, the Bruins saw themselves trailing 15-5. With Conley Burk and Chad Bayne on the corners, Daniel Wood flied out to center field allowing Burk to score. Bases loaded, Chad Bayne crossed home plate off of a walk from Riley Ramsey.
The ended with the Tornados taking Tuesday's game 15-7.
The Bruins have three more games this week and will travel to Brevard, North Carolina on Thursday to face Brevard College again before a two game series against Mid-Atlantic Christian University at home on Friday and Saturday.
