The Bruins baseball team closed out the 2022 regular season with a big 6-2 victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian University to sweep the weekend series. Prior to the start of this afternoon's game, the Bruins recognized seniors Shane Paruch and Conley Burk for their time with the team.Â
"I'm so excited to see the team come out and bring it all game long," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "I'm very happy with today's performance."
On the heels of a 9-5 victory the night before, the Bruins looked to come out swinging and finish the regular season with a victory. Bob Jones looked to Joshua Legnard on the mound for today's game. He came out strong and kept the Mustangs to only one hit through the first three innings.Â
In the bottom of the third, a single RBI from Zach Burk gave the Bruins the 1-0 lead.Â
As the sixth inning came around, the Mustangs saw themselves down to their last out of the inning but they rallied back to knot the game at one. Bob Jones didn't allow that tie to last long. Daniel Barcena went up to bat after a single by Zach Burk. He hit the ball out of the park, his fourth home run of the season, to give the Bruins the 3-1 advantage.Â
The scoring continued in the seventh for the Bruins as Riley Ramsey and Daniel Barcena each came away with an RBI. With the Bruins leading 5-1 after seven innings, the home team looked to add to their lead. Isaiah Brandt singled giving Daniel Wood the chance to score.Â
Mid-Atlantic was down to their final outs and tried to rally back, but were only able to score once more in the top of the ninth bringing the final score to 6-2.Â
Daniel Barcena went 2 for 4 today bringing in three RBI. Joshua Legnard finished out today's game, pitching his third complete game of the season.
The Bruins will have next week off as they prepare for the NCCAA South Regional Tournament May 9-12 held in Mocksville, North Carolina. Seeding and scheduling to come at bjubruins.com.
