The women's soccer team kicked off the 2022 season Friday night as the team competed in a blue/white inter-squad scrimmage at Alumni Stadium.
"Overall I was very pleased with the performance of the players," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael.
Preseason training began Thursday for the women's soccer team where the players had a fair amount of diagnostic tests to complete. Following the scrimmage, Coach Carmichael said that his team is "way ahead of schedule, but we know that we still have a lot of work to do."
"This is a very coachable group. Our returners are doing a great job of helping the new players and the new players have been incredibly humble and show a strong desire to learn."
Throughout the offseason, the women's soccer team welcomed
16 new recruits to the program. These recruits joined a solid group of players returning for the Bruins as the team looks to build on last season's success. 2021 was a record breaking year for the women's soccer program as the team finished the season 18-4-1, their best in program history.
"We should have another strong team this season, and I am extremely excited to see them compete," said Carmichael. "God has once again blessed us with a phenomenal team."
Next up, the Bruins will travel across town to face Division I school Furman University on August 30. While this will be an exhibition match for the Bruins, the Paladins will count this as a regular season match. The Bruins will then take their talents to Raleigh, North Carolina on September 2 where they will kick off the 2022 regular season.
