Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Guilford College Snaps Bruins Undefeated Streak as Women's Soccer Team Falls 3-0

Playing through rain and fatigue, the Bruins women's soccer team fell in a tough loss to Guilford College Saturday morning in Greensboro, North Carolina. With today's result, the Bruins are now 4-1-0 on the season.

"We had a lot of fatigue going into this game and the wet surface, technical mistakes, and chippiness of the game made for a bit of a disastrous day," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "But all is well. We need a couple of days of recovery, and we will be ready for our next match. I have no doubt we will respond well, and I'm proud of the team's response to what was going on throughout the game."

This was the first meeting between the Bruins and the Quakers as both teams entered the match undefeated in the 2022 season.

From the start of today's match, the Quakers took control and put four shots on the Bruins net in the first 10 minutes. Anna Grace Abrams looked to break the deadlock with a couple of looks at Guilford College's goal, but to no avail.

In the 27th minute, Jenna Shotton, from Guilford College, sailed the ball from the far corner over the hands of Bruins goalkeeper Bekah Shoop to take the early lead. The Bruins looked to respond, but the first half of play ended with the Bruins trailing 1-0.

Things began to get chippy as both teams recorded fouls to begin the second half. In the 55th minute, the Quakers would score and then strike again just three minutes later to seal the deal with their 3-0 win.

The Quakers held the Bruins without a shot in the second half and the match ended with Guilford College outshooting Bob Jones 21 to 5.

"We are still early in the season and have had an awesome start and whenever we can split back-to-back road contests there's always a lot of positives to take away," said Carmichael. "Sometimes it's okay to get one of these out of the way, and we will turn our focus onto the  game this coming Tuesday."

Up next, Bob Jones will host Averett University on Tuesday, September 13 for a 5 p.m. kickoff at Alumni Stadium.
