The Bruins played an excellent match tonight against the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats. The match was a quick one, two, three for the Bruins. After a loss over the weekend, it was great to get back into the win column tonight and improve to 17-3 this season.
"Our serving carried us for most of the match and we were happy with how we started off strong," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "Another plus was getting everyone some playing time tonight and the subs coming in and contributing."
The Bruins came out fierce against the Wildcats in the first set. Timbre Cruz started the match with several aces to go up 4-0 on them. After a couple back and forth points, Eden Swihart got her turn to serve where she put together a few aces of her own. Up 14-6, the aces kept coming for the Bruins as Victoria Glaze also recorded a pair of her own. The Bruins went on to win the set 25-12.
The Bruins continued to dominate the night moving through the second set. The start of the set went back and forth for a few points, but Katelyn Landkrohn went on a run to help get the Bruins to a 10-2 lead. After a quick once over and back, Eden Swihart put together another run for the Bruins to improve their set lead to 17-3. Smooth sailing for the rest of the set would give the Bruins a 25-9 set point.
As the match continued into the third set, the team would only slow down for just a minute. Victoria Glaze would get the team back on track with a kill set by Kiersten Hoopes. Glaze would then head back to the line and serve up three aces to put the Bruins up 12-7. Katelyn Landkrohn continued to dominate the Wildcats while she went on a run serving. With such a large lead, the Bruins made sure to get the whole team some play time tonight. Anne Lloyd finished the night off serving to help the lead the Bruins to a 25-11 set and match victory.
Next up, the Bruins will be home again this Thursday, October 5th, for a match against the Warren Wilson Owls.
