Men's Golf Finishes Top Five at Eagle Invitational to Close out Fall Season

The men's golf team competed in the final match of the fall season at the Eagle Invitational hosted by Alice Lloyd College. Sending two teams to compete, the team was able to play some competitive reps and get valuable experience for the future. The A team placed 5th out of 10 teams posting a score of 631 over the two days. Their day one score came in at 314 and day two score came in at 317. Team B finished with a score of 647 (321 and 326). Standout golfer Timmy Smith played exceptionally well finishing his campaign at the invitational with a top five finish as an individual. Senior golfer, Josiah Swaffer, also played some outstanding golf during the invitational as he placed in the top 10 individually.

Head Coach Denny Scott shared, "Since the ALC Eagle Invitational is just that, an invitational, there is no need to qualify or advance to another tournament so we took an approach to use it as some intra-squad competition. Rather than field an "A" team (our top 5 players) and a "B" team (a group of reserve players), we decided to enter two teams of somewhat equal ability.  This allowed for some extra motivation for "bragging rights" within the team and was a fun way to compete while wrapping up the season."

Several Bruins posted career bests while participating the last couple days. Freshman Michael Abdo scored a personal best score of 81 (+9) in Round 1 while freshman teammate, Connor Hairgrove, posted his personal best 79 (+7) in Round 2. Sophomore Will Towberman also posted his personal best score in competition with a 79 (+7).

"Freshmen Dakota Holt, Michael Abdo, and Connor Hairgrove are continuing to improve and show solid potential for the future. Gaining valuable experience as they wrap up their first fall golf season as Bruins," said Coach Scott. "We had a lot of positive takeaways from this tournament to build on for the future."
