Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Reign Continues for Bruins at Home with Win Over Regent Royals

The Bruins remain undefeated at home following a big 87-66 victory over Regent University Friday night in Greenville, South Carolina. With today's win, the men's basketball team is 3-0 at home and 3-3 on the season.

"It was good to come home and defend our home court and remain undefeated at home," said Head Coach Burton Uwarow. "I was really proud of how our guys played tonight. They came out with energy. They came out focused."

The Bruins entered today's game following an exhibition at Piedmont University on Tuesday while the Regent Royals made the trip to Greenville for the first time on the hunt for their first win of the season.

As Friday's game got underway, the Royals opened the scoring before a layup by Devin Pope and a three pointer by Trevor Brunson put the Bruins on top. With 13 minutes remaining in the first half, the Royals cut the deficit to just two before the Bruins went on an eight point run. The lead for Bob Jones continued to grow and right before the buzzer, Brandon Wilkins made his first bucket of the night to put the Bruins ahead 44-27.

After the break, the Bruins and Royals exchanged shots to open up the second half of play. With 13 minutes left of the clock, Hayes Brush stole the ball and went coast to coast and dunked the ball to see the home crowd come alive. Despite the game getting a little chippy, the Bruins continued to battle until the very end where they finished on top 87-66.

Four Bruins finishing in double figures as Devin Pope led the Bruins on the scoresheet with 13 points followed by Hayes Brush and Elijah Cupples at 12 and Brandon Wilkins with 11.

Following the game, Hayes Brush said, "I think it's really important that we come out and have fun. When we have fun on the court, we tend to have good games and good wins."

Brush continued saying, "defense really translates to offense so when we're having fun and playing good defense, we're going to come out and we're going to fight."

As the Bruins look to their upcoming games, Coach Uwarow said "we drastically need to cut down our turnovers. We were at 20 on Tuesday and 19 tonight. There is no reason for us to be that high."

Tomorrow the Bruins make their way across town for an afternoon exhibition against NCAA DI Furman University.
