The Bob Jones University men's basketball team wrapped up the week with an exhibition against NCAA Division I Furman University Saturday afternoon.
"I am super pleased. We scored the most we ever have against Furman, and we shot a higher percentage from three point range than they did as they were 17-49 from three. " said Head Coach Burton Uwarow. "This was our last exhibition for 2023, and I was really glad that everyone got to play. Now we close out 2023 at home after finals. I'm hoping we can keep our momentum."
The Bruins entered today's game on the heels of an 87-66 home win over Regent University Friday night. After back-to-back losses to Princeton and Arkansas, Furman came into the weekend 4-5 on the season. Saturday's game marked the fourth time the Bruins and Paladins have played each other with the first three meetings dating back to 2016, 2017, and 2018 and Furman owning the 3-0 series record.
As today's game got underway, Furman got off to a hot start with a 13-0 run. After a scoreless opening four minutes, Kenney Garrick's shot from beyond the arc put the Bruins on the board. Furman continued building on their lead through the first half, but the Bruins stuck with it and a layup by Shad Vander Hart at the buzzer saw the Bruins behind 47-25.
Hayes Brush sank a three to open the scoring in the second half. The next few minutes saw some back and forth action between the two teams before the Paladins took to another 13-0 scoring spree. At the final buzzer, Furman finished on top 100-58.
Everyone on the Bruins got time on the court today as Devin Pope totaled 16 points in today's game followed Kenney Garrick with 11. The Bruins only went to the free throw line once this afternoon where Pope made both shots. BJU finished with a higher three point percentage making eight of their 22 attempts.
Up next, the Bruins will be back home at the Davis Field House to close out the year with a home game against Huntingdon College on December 15.
