The Bob Jones University baseball team rallied in the seventh inning to beat Columbia International University 9-8 from Fluor Field in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. With today's result, the Bruins have improved to 3-14 on the season.
"I am proud of this team for performing at their true potential tonight," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "They played at their highest level throughout the ups and downs of the entire game."
The Bruins were back downtown Greenville at Fluor Field to face Columbia International University. Bob Jones came into today's game after falling in a weekend series against Trinity International University. As the game got underway, the Bruins looked to Daniel Barcena to start on the mound.
CIU jumped to an early lead, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. The Rams held on to their lead until the bottom of the fourth inning until the Bruins were able to even the score as they scored twice to see the score at 2-2.
The lead didn't hold long as the Rams pulled ahead 6-2 in the sixth inning. As the bottom of the sixth rolled around, the Bruins gained momentum and were able to score three more runs to close the gap.
The Bruins continued to battled and in the seventh inning, a two RBI single from Chad Bayne followed by another two RBI single from Zay Brandt would see the Bruins tally four runs to overtake the Rams and head into the top of the eighth with the 9-6 advantage. CIU got within one, but the Bruins held strong and pulled out the 9-8 victory.
The Bruins will have the weekend off before taking a trip to Florida for games next Monday and Tuesday against the University of Fort Lauderdale.
