University of Fort Lauderdale Sweeps BJU in Tuesday Doubleheader

The University of Fort Lauderdale completed the series sweep as they took both wins over Bob Jones University Tuesday afternoon in Plantation, Florida. The Bruins fell 7-5 in game one before the Eagles finished the day with a 9-2 victory in game two.

"Last year, Fort Lauderdale was second in the nation for the NCCAA," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "I am proud of the way they played against a team that has posted 90+ runs in their last few games prior to the weekend."

The two teams were back on the field Tuesday after meeting for the first time Monday evening. At the end of nine innings in Monday's contest, the Bruins were shutout 6-0.

Fort Lauderdale took to an early lead in game one as several errors on the Bruins side allowed the Eagles to tally four runs in the bottom of the second inning. But the Bruins quickly responded in the top of the third. After Daniel Wood and Zay Brandt both walked to get on base, an RBI double from Riley Ramsey allowed Wood to score and get the Bruins on the board. With two outs and the bases loaded, Pablo Austin sailed the ball out of the park for a grand slam to see the Bruins take the 5-4 lead.

The Eagles jumped ahead to take the 7-5 lead, and it came down to the final three outs as the Bruins had one last chance to make something happen at the top of the seventh. But the Bruins weren't able to make anything happen in the final inning as they fell 7-5 to the Eagles in game one.

After a brief break, the two teams were back in action for game number two. The Eagles wasted no time as they scored three runs in the first inning. A sacrifice fly from Gabriel Swarms allowed Chad Bayne to score putting the Bruins on the board in the third inning.

The Eagles showed their offensive strength through the game as they put up six more runs to lead 9-1. In the seventh and final inning, Bob Jones was down to their final three outs looking to make something happen offensively. With bases loaded and no outs recorded, Riley Ramsey took to the plate. An error by the first baseman allowed Ramsey to reach first scoring Kirkpatrick. Unfortunately, the Bruins left three runners on base to end the game down 9-2.

With today's results, the Bruins now sit at 3-17 on the season.

"We are looking forward to getting back on the field next week," said Casteel.

Up next, the Bruins will take on Truett McConnell University in Cleveland, Georgia for a Tuesday afternoon game.
