Bears Beat Bruins in Tuesday Afternoon Contest

The Bob Jones University baseball team fell to the Truett McConnell University Bears in a 15-7 decision Tuesday afternoon in Cleveland, Georgia. With today's loss the Bruins drop to 3-18 on the season.

"I am proud of the team tonight," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "We produced nine hits including two home runs and a lot of contact that just didn't get through. Even with a limited active roster, due to injuries, nobody quit."

After dropping three games to the University of Fort Lauderdale last week, the team came into the week ready to face a competitive Bears program. Truett McConnell enters the week 21-10 on the season. The two teams met earlier this season at the end of February where the Bears got off to a hot start. BJU worked to rally, but it wasn't enough as they fell in a 11-4 decision from Conestee Park.

As today's game got underway, an RBI single from Pablo Austin in the top of the first inning sent Riley Ramsey across home plate to put the Bruins on the board. The Bears responded to take the 2-1 lead.. Truett McConnell doubled their score in the bottom of the second inning off of a two run home run.

Bob Jones looked to cut down at the Bears lead, and in the top of the fifth inning Conley Burk sailed the ball over the left field fence for home run to see the score come to 4-2. The Bears dominated in the bottom of the fifth inning as they tallied six runs to take the 10-2 lead.

But the Bruins didn't back down, and in the sixth inning they recorded three more runs to have the scoreboard read 10-5. An RBI single from Chad Bayne in the seventh followed by a home run from Riley Ramsey in the eighth wasn't enough as the game ended with the Bears on top 15-7.

Up next, the Bruins are back at Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina where they host Milligan University for a three-game weekend series.
