Maryville College Sweeps Bruins in Saturday Doubleheader

In a doubleheader in Maryville, Tennessee Saturday afternoon, the Bruins fell in both games to a strong Maryville College. With today's results, the Bruins now sit at 2-9 on the season.

"We saw a good pitching performance by Henry Wallach in the first game, but as a team we allowed too many errors to the point that we couldn't catch up. In the second game, we faced some tough pitching and we couldn't find our bats as a team," said Coach Brent Casteel.

It was a beautiful day in Tennessee as the Bruins took to Scotland Yard, home of the Maryville College Scots. The Bruins came into today's game looking to get back in the winning column after falling in their last six games. The Scots entered Saturday's contests with an undefeated start to their season, boasting a 9-0 record.

Game one of Saturday's doubleheader got started at 2 p.m. as the Bruins looked to Henry Wallach on the mound. The Scots got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning and continued to improve on their lead through the bottom of the second where they held the 4-0 advantage.

As the fourth inning rolled around, Zach Burk went up to the plate first for the Bruins. After getting hit by a pitch, Burk advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs on the board, an RBI double from Gabriel Swarms put the Bruins on the board.

The Scots went on to score seven more. With Maryville College ahead by ten runs, the game ended at the bottom of the seventh with the Scots on top 11-1.

After a quick break, the two programs were back on the field. Maryville College got off to a 4-0 lead at the bottom of the first and continued to build through the rest of the game. The Bruins tried to fight back, but solid pitching from the Scots helped keep the Bruins scoreless. At the end of game two, the Bruins fell 7-0.

The Bruins are back in action Tuesday, March 7 with a doubleheader against Montreat College. The game will be played at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive. Tickets for Tuesday's game can be purchased here.
