Bruins Fall in First Game of Season Series Against Toccoa Falls

Toccoa Falls College claimed game one of the series with a 9-3 result from Toccoa Falls, Georgia on Thursday.

"It was a great effort by our team today," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "We put the bat on the ball throughout the entire game, but we just didn't find the holes as often as we needed to. We played a solid defensive game also and our pitching did very well under the circumstances."

After nine days without competition due to weather, the Bruins took to the field to face NCCAA rival Toccoa Falls College. Thursday marked the 12th meeting between the Bruins and Screaming Eagles with TFC leading the series 9-3 through the past two seasons.

As today's game got underway, the score remained scoreless through the first two innings before the Bruins broke the deadlock in the top of the third. A double from Riley Ramsey followed by a single from Conley Burk got Bruins on base. Ramsey put the Bruins up 1-0 after scoring on a passed ball. Burk advanced and then scored another for Bob Jones off of wild pitches from the Screaming Eagles.

Toccoa Falls responded and took the 4-2 lead in the bottom of the third off of a sac fly and two home runs.

The Bruins got within one in the top of the fifth off of an RBI single from Pablo Austin, but the Screaming Eagles were able to tally at least one run throughout each remaining inning to finish with the 9-3 win.

Despite the score, the Bruins played well and finished the day with eight hits, three runs, no errors and five strikeouts (Daniel Williams, 2 and Henry Wallach, 3). With today's loss, the Bruins are now 3-22 on the season.

The two teams meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on the road in Toccoa Falls, Georgia.
