Alice Lloyd Fall Invitational Recap

The golf team finished their first official tournament of the season competing in the Alice Lloyd Fall Invitational up in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. The tournament was a two-day, 36-hole event hosted by Alice Lloyd College at StoneCrest Golf Club.

"We had a record-setting and very memorable first tournament of the fall season," said Head Coach Denny Scott. "We fell a little short of our goals in Round 1 and had determined to move up the leaderboard in Round 2."

Through the front nine on the first day, Timmy Smith and Nicholas Smith led the team by going 1-under and even. At the turn, the team started to struggle a bit, but Timmy was able to keep it under control for a +3 (75) finish to the day. Nicholas would follow with a +4 (76) and a +5 (77) by Josiah Swaffer. The team finished Round 1 in 6th place with a team score of 311 and looked to move up the leaderboard during Round 2 of the tournament.

As Round 2 got underway on Tuesday, Nicholas Smith had something special going as he finished the front nine three under par with four birdies. All five Bruins birdied on a par-5 7th hole. At the turn, Brandon Autry started his back nine with a birdie and then followed up with birdies on holes 13, 15, and 16 and was able to finish the back nine 1-under. Timmy Smith finished his back nine at even and Round 2 with a score of +4.

Nicholas Smith was also having quite the day for the team. He completed his back nine with five birdies and set a school record to finish Round 2 at eight under par for a score of 64 on the day. This also saw hm earn a spot on the all-tournament team as he finished the tournament tied for second place.

"The record-breaking round that Nicholas shot set the tone for the team to make a run up the leaderboard in Round 2," said Coach Scott. "Timmy played some consistent golf. Josiah and Brandon contributed multiple birdies as well. Overall, a great team effort behind a superior individual effort by Nick."
