In their first NCCAA South Region matchup of the season, the Bob Jones University men's soccer team soared to a massive 10-0 shutout win over Toccoa Falls College on the road Tuesday night. With tonight's victory, the Bruins have won three straight games to improve to 3-2-1 on the year.
"This is a great result for our team as we enter our region play," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "We continue to build confidence, and I am proud of the way the team competed tonight. It is so important for our guys to create and finish chances, and we did that really well!"
It was a goal fest on Georgia as seven Bruins players got their name on the score sheet to open up region play.
The Bruins got off to a hot start and wasted no time as goalkeeper Cameron Braswell sent a long ball up the center of the field where Malachi Ray-Tharpe chased and put it away to put the Bruins up 1-0. The Bruins continued to hold strong through the first half when James McCarty sailed the ball into the attacking zone to Mario Figueroa who scored to double the lead for Bob Jones.
It was then Asher Aurednik's turn as he tallied back-to-back goals to add to the strong offensive effort by the Bruins.
With just over four minutes remaining in the first half, Bryce Ramler was taken down inside the box to earn a penalty kick. Roussell Castillo went to the line and converted on the kick to notch his first collegiate goal.
Off of the assist by Zawadi Kashindi, Aurednik recorded the first hat trick of the season as the minutes ticked down in the first half. But the freshman wasn't finished. Right before the whistle, he tallied his fourth goal of the game sending the Bruins to the sidelines with the 7-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, Malachi Ray-Tharpe drew a foul to give the Bruins a shot at another PK. This time it was Rylan Boldt who would take the kick looking to get it past the keeper. Boldt shot the ball straight into the net to see himself with now a goal and assist in the match.
With the lead secured and just minutes left on the clock. Rhys Solomon got on the board with the assist from Zawadi Kashindi to mark his first goal as a Bruin. Not to be left out, Will Hotchkin sent the ball to David Issa who scored with just five seconds left in the game to seal the 10-0 shutout victory for the Bruins.
Asher Aurednik led tonight's match with four goals with Will Hotchkin and Zawadi Kashindi each recording two assists a piece.
"Ultimately this is a great step in the right direction and we have sent a message to the region," said Fulton. "We are looking to recover and stay focused for this weekend with another tough away game."
