Bruins Start the Week with 5-0 Shutout at CU Harrodsburg

The Bob Jones University women's soccer team began the week on top with a dominant 5-0 victory over Campbellsville University Harrodsburg in Harrodsburg, Kentucky Monday night. Tonight's result marks their third straight win as the Bruins remain undefeated and have improved to 5-0-3 on the season.

"Our players did a phenomenal job keeping the level of play high while allowing us to rest a lot of players for our games tomorrow and Wednesday," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We were able to get all of our field players in the game, and we never saw a drop in energy nor in our style of play. All of our rotations were effective and contributed tonight."

After picking up an important 2-1 victory over NCAA DII King University on Saturday, the women's soccer team came into Monday's match ready to take on their first of three back-to-back-to-back contests.

The Bruins wasted no time and right as the match started gained control of the game. They got on the board just three minutes into the match after a Campbellsville defender knocked the ball into the net after trying to clear the ball out of the box after a Bruins corner kick.

The team doubled their lead in the 11th minute as Abby Nelson tallied her first goal of the season off of the assist from Susie VanDoodewaard. Sarah Ward would get on the score sheet five minutes later to put the Bruins ahead 3-0 in the first half.

Despite holding onto the lead, the Bruins continued pushing for more and at the end of 45 minutes of play saw 10 shots while holding the Pioneers to only three shots.

Gabriela Gonzalez kicked off the scoring in the second half as she maneuvered around multiple Pioneer defenders to get in the box and slide one past the keeper into the back of the net.

The final goal for the Bruins came in the 84th minute off of a corner kick. As Ashlyn Schmidt sailed the ball in front of the goal, Estrella Cruz stood ready and headed the ball into the net to secure the 5-0 win for Bob Jones.

After the game Coach Carmichael complimented his team saying, "Sarah Ward, Lauren Green, Elli Cummings, and Julia Hartzler did a phenomenal job controlling our midfield while Lauren Murray, Jessica Townsend , Abby Arrowood, and Kaylee Poore did fantastic building our attacks. Esther Young kept a clean sheet, and we got some amazing goals from Estrella Cruz, Sarah Ward, Gaby Gonzalez, Ashlyn Schmidt, and Abby Nelson."

"Everyone worked hard to dominate possession throughout the game." said midfielder Julia Hartzler. "We penetrated their high line of defense with through balls, and we were able to capitalize on those runs. This was a great opportunity to build momentum going into our upcoming matches."

"Tonight was a definitely an all-team performance. Now we turn our focus on to Centre College who is a perennial powerhouse and wll be a good challenge for us," concluded Carmichael.

The Bruins make the short trip to Danville, Kentucky on Tuesday to face Centre College in a 4 p.m. kickoff.
