The women's volleyball team is ramping up for another exciting week of matches. The team will be facing the Piedmont University Lions on September 26 at 7 p.m. The Bruins will be seeking their sixth straight win over the Lions in this matchup. The Bruins currently lead the series 7-1.
Last week, the Bruins played a tough matchup against the Warren Wilson Owls. The match would be much closer than you would expect from a first-year program in the Owls. Through the first set, the Bruins would get off to a slow start and much of the set would be close. Slowly the Bruins pulled away just enough to edge out the first set 25-18. The Owls were a scrappy team and weren't going to go away quietly. They would push the Bruins through the entirety of the second set as well, but the Bruins would hang on to win 25-18. Finally in the third set after struggling in the first two, the Bruins would give themselves a nice little cushion, but the Owls would test them. The Bruins would finish the third set 25-20 in another close set.
The Lions finished a tri-match this past weekend against Belhaven University and Maryville College. They played well and were able to come away with a pair of wins improving their season record to 5-7. They would beat Belhaven University in a 3-1 match and would beat Maryville 3-0.
Coming into this matchup, the teams will be seeing each other for the ninth time. In the last matchup, the Lions played the Bruins close even sending one of the sets to extra points. The Bruins would go on to complete the sweep and win 25-18, 27-25, and 25-23.
