The Bob Jones University Bruins have extended their winning streak to 11 games with a 3-1 victory over NCCAA DI Clinton College on Thursday. With their win on the road, the Bruins have improved to 16-8 on the year.
As the game got underway, the Bruins and Clinton College Golden Bears rallied back and forth. The Bruins saw themselves trailing but soon evened the score at 13-13 before taking the 17-13 lead. They took a commanding lead and finished the first set 25-18.
The Bruins quickly took control of the second set and soon found themselves leading by 11 points. They closed out the set with four straight points to win it 25-12 and take the 2-0 match lead.
BJU looked to close out the match in straight sets, but Clinton College battled to stay in the game. Halfway through the third, the Golden Bears went on a five-point spree to lead 19-13. While the Bruins clawed their way back to get within one point, the Golden Bears recorded the final two points to take set three 25-23.
Several errors by Clinton College allowed the Bruins to go up 8-3 in the fourth set. The Bruins soon saw themselves leading 20-12, but Clinton College rallied to come back 23-20. Kills by Emily Lewis and Hannah Goodwin sealed the win for the Bruins as they took the match three sets to one.Â
"Clinton is a much improved team this year and they pushed us throughout the match," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "It is always a challenge playing them on their home court with their loud crowd. We faced adversity and was able to push through for a solid win tonight."
The Bruins are back in the Davis Field House next and will host Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
