Bruins Extend Win Streak to 12 Games with Sweep Over Wildcats

From their home court at the Davis Field House, the Bob Jones University Bruins women's volleyball team has extended their winning streak to 12 games wih the 3-0 sweep over Johnson & Wales University. With today's victory, the Bruins have improved to 17-8 on the season.

"We played Johnson & Wales a few weeks ago and since then they have improved greatly, so they were able to push us in ways we haven't been pushed in awhile. This was a really good win for us tonight," said Assistant Coach Victoria Dunwoody. "We were able to get a lot of non-starters in the match and see contributions from them. It was a good all-around team win."

Today marked the second meeting this season between the Bruins and Wildcats. On September 17, the Bruins brought back the win after taking down the Wildcats 3-0 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

As today's game got underway, the Bruins pulled ahead to an early lead. The team continued to lead the Wildcats throughout the opening set. A block by Emily Lewis gave BJU the first set point of the evening. She followed that by a kill to help the team seal the first set win 25-12.

It was a quick back and forth effort to begin the second set before the Bruins made a bit of headway. The Wildcats worked to close the gap but in the end it was the Bruins to take the second set 25-17.

The first three points of the third set went to the Wildcats before a serving error by JWU allowed Bethany Estell to go to the service line. The Wildcats held the lead early as they looked to keep the match alive, but soon the Bruins tied it 8-8. The Bruins didn't let up and went on to take an eight-point lead over the Wildcats.  They finished the sweep over Johnson & Wales with a set three score of 25-15.

Up next, the Bruins will host Morris College for Aloha Night on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Davis Field House.

"We're excited to play Morris on Thursday and see a different team and style of play to hopefully continue to push us," said Dunwoody.
