The Bruins played with a valiant effort in an exhibition against NCAA DI opponent Western Carolina University, but fell 100-61.
The Bruins came out firing and led a few minutes into the game. Western Carolina started to make more shots and ran away a little bit, but the Bruins were able to contain them in the first half, only trailing by 16 at the half. Shad Vander Hart led the Bruins in scoring with 16 shooting 4-6 from three point land. Trevor Brunson scored 12 and Devin Dean scored 8 to add to the Bruin's total.Â
It was the second half where the Bruins struggled to make shots and where Western Carolina pulled away. One very bright spot on the night, however, is that the Bruins won the turnover battle 8-15 (committing 8, but forcing 15), which against this kind of opponent speaks volumes of their defense and offensive ball control.
"I am very proud of our defense," Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "But going forward, we need to shoot a lot better to capitalize on the defensive work."
The Bruins play next Saturday, November 9 at home in the Davis Field House against Johnson & Wales University with a 5 p.m. tipoff!
