Women's Basketball Team Drops Home Opener to Brevard College

The Bob Jones University women's basketball team is still on the hunt for their first win of the season after a 60-45 defeat by the Brevard College Tornados Friday night. With today's loss, the Bruins now sit at 0-3 on the season.

As today's game got underway, the Bruins saw a slight lead through the first four minutes of the quarter. Halfway through the opening 10 minutes, Brevard took the lead. With just a few minutes left in the quarter, the Bruins trailed 14-9. A three by Faith Hayward in the final few seconds briefly put the Bruins ahead before a layup by the Tornados ended the first quarter 13-12 in favor of Brevard.

After a bit of a slow start to the second quarter, but with 2:40 left in the half, the Bruins began hitting several three pointers beginning with Caitlyn Dickerson. Dickerson drained another one less than a minute later to put the Bruins within three of Brevard. It was then Anna Layne Wylder's turn as she put down a three pointer up for Bob Jones. With 40 seconds left on the clock, Keely Prices's jump shot gave the Bruins the 25-24 lead. The Bruins went back to their locker room at halftime trailing 26-25.

Keely Price put down a three pointer to open the scoring for Bob Jones after the break. The Tornados led by ten points until Caitlyn Dickerson's layup with 3:30 remaining in the third quarter cut at the deficit. Jenna Brooks closed out the quarter with a three pointer to put the Bruins within six points at 43-37.

The Bruins entered the final quarter looking to come back from a six point deficit, but Brevard continued to pull ahead. The Bruins struggled offensively in the final quarter as the Tornados outscored the 17-8.

At the final buzzer, it was the Tornados that finished ahead 60-45 over Bob Jones.

Keely Price and Caitlyn Dickerson both finished the night in double figures with Price leading the Bruins with a double double of 12 points and 14 rebounds.

After the game, Head Coach Mike LeViere said, "Defensively, we were better than we have been. We've been getting better every game, and tonight was a continuation of that. Overall, our defense and rebounding was good. Our offense, turnovers, and taking care of the ball was not as strong as we'd want. There are always going to be areas to improve on. We had some really good moments, and some others that really showed our youth. These young ladies are working hard and learning every day."

With less than 24 hours of rest and recovery, the Bruins are back in the Davis Field House for a 3 p.m. contest against Columbia College.
