The Bob Jones University women's basketball team closed out their weekend at home with a 85-42 loss to Columbia College. With today's loss, the Bruins sit at 0-4 on the season.
The Bruins entered today's contest less than a day after their Friday night meeting against Brevard College. Today's game marked the second meeting between the Bruins and Koalas after the Bruins fell to Columbia College in their season opener.
Columbia College got off to a quick 7-0 start to today's game before Anna Layne Wylder drained a three point shot to get the Bruins on the board. A minute later, Jenna Brooks responded with another three point shot for Bob Jones. The Bruins fell behind 26-13 after the opening 10 minutes.Â
Diamynd Buckson opened the scoring for the Bruins in the second quarter. A layup by Kayley Trump with just under three minutes in the half put the Bruins down by just 12 points, but the Koalas went on an eight point run to close out the quarter.Â
After the halftime break, the Bruins struggled offensively. Through the third and fourth quarters, the Koalas outscored the Bruins 44 to 21. At the final buzzer, the Bruins saw themselves down 85-42 in the loss to Columbia College.
Kayley Trump led the Bruins with 12 points while defensively, Keely Price recorded 13 rebounds in the contest.
"Today was tough for us coming in with a limited roster with less than 24 hours between games," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We started slow and they jumped out early. Their pressure definitely was a factor the entire game. We are going to be better for the experience and that's a good thing."
Coach LeViere continued saying, "we continue to learn and improve every time we're on the floor. We've been covering a lot of new material. Sometime soon we will begin to operate without thinking and then the game will slow down for us. We're just going to keep working."
The Bruins are back for a mid-week home game next Tuesday as they host Meredith College for a 6 p.m. start.
