Bruins Fall in Hard Fought Game to the Koalas

The Bruins fought hard and played well, but came up just short against the Columbia College Koalas with a final score of 86-77.

"We're clearly getting better since the last time we played them, we struggled," Assistant Coach Tony Miller said, "but going 9-34 from the three point line is what hurt us tonight."

The first half was mostly controlled by the Bruins, and their offensive movement probably caught the Koalas defense off-guard. The Bruins also forced 10 turnovers on defense while only committing three. Trevor Brunson and Justin Skelton led the way for the Bruins with 10 points each. Devin Dean was able to grab four offensive rebounds in the half which led to seven second-chance points. The Koalas offense started to find some offensive momentum towards the end of the half and cut a 12 point lead down to two going into halftime.

The Koalas were able to start the second half on a small 6-0 run which gave them the lead, and then back and forth it went. The largest lead for either team for the first 15 minutes of the second half was seven. Trevor Pittman made a couple big threes to cut into the Koalas lead, but the Koalas kept answering. The Bruins were able to cut the lead to four points with about 40 second remaining but couldn't get it closer. The game ended with intentional foul free-throws, so the Koalas were able to add to the score which ended 86-77.

Five Bruins scored in the double-digits tonight which continues the spread of offensive skill on this team. Trevor Brunson and Trevor Pittman both scored 14, Shad Vander Hart and Devin Dean both scored 12, and Justin Skelton led the team in points for the second straight game finishing with 16. The Bruins also crushed the turnover battle forcing 18 while only committing 7 all game.

This was the final home game for the Bruins before Christmas break, but they have two exhibition games coming up. First, they play at Winthrop University on Thursday, December 12 with a 6:00 p.m. tipoff, and then they travel to nearby Anderson University on Thursday, December 19 for a 7 p.m. showdown.
