Bruins Drop Close One to Toccoa Falls in Game One of Weekend Series

From Toccoa Falls, Georgia, the Bruins battled for 10 innings, but a late run by Toccoa Falls College saw them drop game one of the weekend series 7-6.

"I am proud of our team," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "They kept the pressure on all ten innings. Our team caused a power hitting team to change their strategy to small ball to find a way to beat us."

The Bruins made their way to Georgia looking to respond well after last Saturday's doubleheader against their NCCAA South Region rival. Last weekend the two programs met for the first time this season where the Bruins were unable to overcome a high scoring inning from the Screaming Eagles and fell 16-6 in game one before a walk-off grand slam in game two saw them drop both games to Toccoa Falls.

As today's game kicked off, the Bruins started well with back to back singles from Riley Ramsey and Evan Walker. Ramsey scored on a fielder's choice to put the Bruins up 1-0 early.

In the top of the second, an RBI single from Ramsey scored Sam Gonzalez before Zay Brandt ran across home plate on a passed ball to put the Bruins on top 3-0. The Screaming Eagles got a run on the board in the bottom of the second to cut at the Bruins lead.

Kamden Lance hit the ball out of the park to open the third inning and put the Bruins ahead 4-1. Toccoa Falls put up a four run inning at the bottom of the third to overtake the Bruins.

Bob Jones came back to even the score once again heading into the final innings of today's NCCAA South Region contest.

Looking for that go ahead run, the Bruins battled through the top of the ninth inning. The bottom of the ninth ended with a strikeout as the two programs prepared for extra innings as the score remained tied 6-6.

The Bruins went three up, three down to open the 10th inning. As Toccoa Falls went up to bat, they loaded the bases and hit a grounder to short stop. The ball bounced allowing the Screaming Eagles to record the game-winning run.

Bob Jones ended the game with six runs on 13 hits.

Up next, the Bruins and Screaming Eagles will take to the field for a Saturday doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. from Toccoa Falls, Georgia.
