Bruins Extinguish Flames and Owls

The Bruins finished victorious in today's trimatch earning 3-0 wins against Welch College and Warren Wilson. With Saturday's wins, the Bruins have improved to 10-8 overall and 4-3 at the Davis Field House.

"Welch College and Warren Wilson both played with a lot of heart today, and we had to play diligently," said Assistant Coach Victoria Dunwoody. "These two games really taught us to play together as a team which we've been working towards a lot."

The Bruins entered the contest looking to extend a three game winning streak after picking up road wins against Johnson & Wales University and Piedmont University earlier this week.

As today's games got underway the Welch College Flames got off to a hot start and the Bruins quickly saw themselves down 10-4. The Bruins then began an offensive run to come from behind and soon led 23-15. A kill by Emily Lewis put the Bruins in the win column for set one.

BJU got off to a better start and held the lead through the set and pulled ahead 2-0 to lead the contest. Looking to finish out the match, the home team saw an early 7-4 advantage. They didn't let off the gas and quickly finished off the set 25-14 to sweep the Flames 3-0.

The Bruins were back on the court later Saturday afternoon to face Warren Wilson College. The two programs battled back and forth to start the match. It remained tight until the Bruins went on an 8-2 run to wrap up set one and take the win.

After a good start to the second set, the Warren Wilson Owls battled back to even the score at 11 apiece. It continued to remain close but the Bruins came out ahead 25-22.

The third and final set finished with the Bruins leading the Owls 25-17 to take the match in straight sets.

After the game, Coach Dunwoody continued saying, "these wins gave us a lot of momentum that we're trying to build on as we take on Toccoa on Tuesday followed by four big games over the weekend."

Up next, the Bruins host Toccoa Falls College in a NCCAA South Region showdown on Tuesday night in the Davis Field House.
