The Bruins are coming home with a win after defeating the Toccoa Falls College Screaming Eagles with a final score of 79-68.
"I'm happy to get another road win," Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "It's been a while since we have had a double digit win here at Toccoa."
The first half started as a three-point shootout with both teams knocking down shots early. It was a clean half for the most part with neither team getting in foul trouble. The first foul of the game was about nine minutes in. The Bruins and Screaming Eagles went back-and-forth all half long with both teams holding leads up to six points. The Bruins were able to end the half on a mini run to take a 38-37 lead going into halftime.
The game stayed its course for the first 10 minutes of the second half. In the final 10 minutes of the game, however, the Bruins took control getting several defensive stops in a row which led to points on the other end. Though the Screaming Eagles kept fighting until the final whistle, the Bruins came away with a huge region win on the road.
"We again had a good boost from our defense and from our bench that helped us," said Coach Uwarow.
The defense forced seven turnovers and kept the Screaming Eagles off of the offensive glass with the Bruins winning the rebound battle by seven. Shad Vander Hart led the Bruins ripping down seven rebounds in the game. The points were spread for the Bruins with four players scoring double figures. Vander Hart added 14 points to his seven rebounds for a good night. Trevor Pittman scored 12, and Devin Dean and Brandon Wilkins both scored 10 points off the bench. The Bruins offense was hot and shot 40% from the three-point line which helped them in their runs throughout the game.
Though this win is big, Coach Uwarow still looks at this team's potential saying, "I know that we haven't peaked yet, and I hope my players believe that as well and are able to reach their potential. The season is a race to maturity and the most mature teams win in the postseason."
The Bruins have a few days of practice before they travel to Jacksonville, Florida this weekend to take on the Trinity Baptist College Eagles, another region opponent. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
