The Bob Jones University women's volleyball team split their Saturday taking a 3-1 win over Truett McConnell University before falling to Johnson University 1-3 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Bruins got their weekend started with a early afternoon contest against Truett McConnell University. The two teams kept it close through the entire first sets, but in the end, it was the Bears who finished on top 25-21 to take the opening set.Â
Truett McConnell jumped to an early lead in set two, but the Bruins battled back and took the 21-20 lead late in the game. With set point on the line, it was a long rally, but Stefanie Burke's kill sealed the 25-21 set win to knot the match 1-1.Â
They carried that momentum into the third set and pulled through to a 25-18 set win.Â
Going into the fourth set, the Bruins began to build a nice advantage over the Bears, but Truett McConnell battled back. In the end, the Bruins bested the Bears 25-23 to win three straight sets in the 3-1 victory.
After a short break, the Bruins were back on the court to take on the Johnson University Royals.Â
The Royals wasted no time and began to pull ahead to an early lead. Johnson University took set one with a final score of 25-17.Â
In set two, the Royals once again took the lead. But the Bruins worked to close the gap and knot the score 17-17. The Bruins then scored five straight points to pull ahead 24-20. The Royals didn't back down, but the Bruins held strong to get the 27-25 set win and tie the game 1-1.Â
The Bruins worked through the final two sets, but were unable to hold back the Royals as they fell 25-15 and 25-14 to drop the match 3-1.
Up next, the Bruins are back at home in the Davis Field House for a 7 p.m. contest against Pfeiffer University on Thursday.Â
