Bruins Close Fall Season in Tough Weather Conditions

The Bruins golf team closed their fall season competing in the Eagle Invitational hosted by Alice Lloyd College in Cohutta, Georgia to begin the week.

Monday was a tough round of golf just simply due to the weather conditions. There were many non-traditional water hazards in the middle of the fairway that added to the difficulty. Nonetheless, the Bruins competed. The B Team for this tournament consisted of Bryce Coursen, Dakota Holt, Conner Ingle, Luke Jett, and Brayden Joyner. The A Team consisted of Brandon Autry, DJ Waller, Grant Camfield, Connor Hairgrove, and Eli DeVaughn.

During round one, it was flurried up-and-down attempts and many putts that caught the edge of the cup. For the most part, the A Team stayed controlled and limited the damage. The only big struggle was that they were birdie-less in the first round, but there were more to come in the second round. Autry led the team at +6 after the first round followed closely by DJ Waller and Grant Camfield at +8.

The B Team fought hard and did well, but just couldn't avoid a couple big numbers on the scorecard during round one.

Round two came along and the conditions were slightly better, and nearly everyone improved. The B Team had a few birdies sprinkled on the scorecard through Holt, Ingle, and Joyner. Joyner after struggling early, parred seven straight holes and led the B Team in the tournament at +21 followed by Holt at +22. As a team, they finished in 9th place out of 12 teams

For the A Team, Autry found an incredible rhythm and bounced back from a frustrating first round. Five birdies, including back-to-back birdies on holes one and two, highlighted his round and he finished +6 for the tournament and in fourth place overall. Camfield and Hairgrove also had a strong round. While Camfield stayed consistent to his first round score, he found the cup for two birdies. Hairgrove improved by six shots with the help of getting a birdie on hole 13. With valiant effort, they almost gave themselves the chance to jump a couple teams on the leaderboard and come tied for 5th, but came up just short. They finished in 7th place as a team.
