Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Kaitlyn Yerkes

Bruins Top Johnson & Wales with 3-0 Sweep

The Bob Jones University women's volleyball team finished on top with a 3-0 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday night in the Davis Field House.

"We've really been working on just being more consistent as a team," said Coach Christa Schlichting. "As we got into today's match, we had the goal to start strong and to maintain as we have a lead and to be consistent throughout."

It was a close start to tonight's game as Johnson & Wales pulled ahead to a slight lead. The Bruins went on a seven point run to take back a 14-11 lead. They continued to play well and hit 20 points first with a seven point advantage. The Bruins closed out the set with a 25-17 win.

Set two was all Bruins from the start as they took an opening 5-1 lead. They maintained their lead and soon cruised to a 25-13 set two win.

The third set saw Johnson & Wales put up a fight as the two schools traded points early. The Bruins pulled away and put away the 3-0 match victory with a 25-20 set win.

Following the game, Schlichting said, "another focus was the endgame result of each set. So, yes, we may have the lead, but let's not take our eyes off of that. Let's stay focused. Let's get this set finished. And it was good to see in sets two and three that the team really locked in and finished the end game in both sets."

Looking ahead to this weekend, she shared, "we may have a couple of different lineups, so there will be a lot of prep the next couple of days with who we have and being able to get them ready. We know it's going to be great competition. We play these tough teams to prepare us for our post-season play. We're very excited for Saturday and look forward to three practices to get ready."

Up next, the Bruins travel to Knoxville, Tennessee for a Saturday tri-match against Truett McConnell University and Johnson University.
