The Bob Jones University men's basketball team stunned the Sewanee Tigers with a buzzer beater three-point bucket to take the Friday night win 94-91 in Sewanee, Tennessee.
As Friday's game got underway, both teams came out pushing the pace. The Bruins got off to an early 6-2 lead, but five minutes into the game, Sewanee took their first lead of the game to lead 14-13. The score remained close, but a three at the end of the first sent the Tigers into halftime with a 46-44 advantage.
Sewanee opened the second half with a burst, pushing ahead to a 12 point lead. But the Bruins refused to fold, and a spark was ignited as the Bruins went on a 17-0 run halfway through the second frame to give BJU the 76-71 lead.
The two programs continued to battle. With 21 seconds left in the game, Sewanee cut the Bruins' lead to 90-89 with basket from outside the arc. After Shad VanderHart split a pair of free throws, Sewanee tied the game 91-91 behind two free throws by the Tigers.
But in the defining moment of the night, Wilkins pushed the ball up the floor, pulled up on the right wing, and buried the decisive three with four seconds left to put the Bruins on top 94-91.
Everyone got a chance on the court tonight with four Bruins finishing in double figures. Justin Skelton led all players with 31 points on the night.
Following the game, Head Coach Tony Miller said, "we got contributions from everyone and multiple guys stepped up and made big plays. It was fitting that it would be capped off with a shot like Brandon Wilkins."
The Bruins are back on the court again on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game against Spalding University in Sewanee, Tennessee.
