The #2 Bob Jones University Bruins defeated #3 Baptist University of Florida in straight sets in Friday's semifinal match at the NCCAA South Region Tournament in Pensacola, Florida to advance to the title game on Saturday.
The Bruins entered the postseason on a six game winning streak and seeded second in the region. Friday's semifinal opponent was #3 Baptist University of Florida. The Bruins and Eagles met twice earlier this season with the Eagles taking the first ever meeting 3-1 before the Bruins responded with a 3-0 win in their second meeting.
Bob Jones got off to a solid 8-1 start over the BUF Eagles. BUF worked to close the gap, but the Bruins held strong and wrapped up the opening set 25-17.
Throughout the middle frame the two programs battled for every points. The score remained close, but it was the Bruins who pulled ahead 2-0 in the match with the 25-20 set win.
As the third set began, the Eagles got off to an early advantage. But the Bruins didn't allow that lead to hold long and soon came back to tie and take the lead. They held on until the final point for the 25-17 set win.
With today's 3-0 win the Bruins have improved to 17-14 on the season and look to continue their winning ways on Saturday.
"The team played well tonight against a tough BUF team," said Coach Christa Schlichting. "Different players contributed at different times both offensively and defensively. I am hoping we bring the same energy tomorrow into the regional championship match."
The Bruins play for their fourth straight NCCAA South Region Championship title on Saturday against #1 Pensacola Christian College. First serve for Saturday's title game is scheduled for 12 p.m. eastern time in Pensacola, Florida.
