The Bob Jones University men's golf team started the Spring season out strong with a win against Montreat College Tuesday afternoon. At the conclusion of the singles match-play exhibition at the Greer Golf Club, the Bruins led the Cavaliers 3 1/2 to 1 1/2.
"This was a solid start to the Spring season. We needed some of the younger guys to step up and they certainly did," said Head Coach Denny Scott.
It was a beautiful day on the course as the Bruins made their way to Greer, South Carolina to take on Montreat College in a match-play exhibition.
Brayden Joyner got the Bruins on the scoresheet first as he won his match seven and five in a convincing fashion to take a whole point. The Bruins then took the 2-0 lead over the Cavaliers as co-captain Brandon Autry secured another point with a six and five match win. The third full point for the Bruins came on the 14th hole courtesy of Eli DeVaughn who finished his match five and four. It came down to the 18th hole as Dakota Holt tied his match to give another half point to the home team as they finished the competition with 3 1/2 points for the win.
Following the match, Coach Scott said, "each team member was able to build some confidence and develop some consistency through this opening match which will benefit us greatly in upcoming tournaments this Spring."
The Spring season continues for the golf team as they travel to Timberlake Country Club in Columbia, South Carolina on March 3-4 for a tournament hosted by Columbia College.
