It was a tough day on the field as the Bob Jones University Bruins fell in both of their contests to Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. In game one of the day, the Scots shut out the Bruins 10-0 before taking the 18-5 win in game two. With today's results, the Bruins now sit at 2-10 on the season.
As game one of today's doubleheader got underway, Covenant College opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with an early home run to get on the board. They capitalized on a wild pitch to score again. After tacking on a third run in the third inning, the Scots went on to record seven additional runs in the fifth and sixth inning to take the 10-0 win over the Bruins.Â
Following a brief break, the Bruins and Scots were back on the field for game two of the day. The Bruins were unable to capitalize on a double by Conley Burk in the first inning and in the bottom of the inning, Covenant College was able to produce four early runs to take the lead.Â
After Bryson French got on base after an error by the Scots, Kyle Prouse stepped up to the plate and doubled to center field allowing French to score and get the Bruins on the board. An RBI double by Angelo Gomez scored Prouse. Evan Johnson hit his pitch straight up the middle giving Gomez a chance to cross home plate and cut the Bruins deficit to just two runs.Â
Covenant responded with eight more runs to take the 13-8 lead.Â
A home run by Bryson French in the fourth inning followed by a run by Angelo Gomez in the fifth were the final two runs by the Bruins as they fell to Covenant College with a final score of 18-5.Â
Following Saturday's games, Coach Kyle Morrison said, "it was an incredibly difficult weekend for our guys. We've been in every game this season up until this point. We certainly need to make some adjustments in how we prepare and how we go about our approach at the dish. We also can't give up as many runs as we did this weekend. We simply have to be better everywhere."
The Bruins are back home at Conestee Park on Tuesday, March 4 for a 4 p.m. contest against Brevard College.
