Bruins Fall to Tornados at Home

In their first home game in over a month, the Bruins were not able to get a win as they fell to the Brevard College Tornados 11-2.

"We just simply need to be better," Head Coach Kyle Morrison said. "We were given so many opportunities and didn't take advantage of any of them. We left too many runners on base and gave them too many free bases. We have to clean it up going forward."

The game started pretty well for the Bruins. Tillman Padgett started the game on the mound and gave up a solo home run in the top of the first inning. But in the bottom of the first, the Bruins answered right back scoring a run of their own from a sac-fly RBI by Conley Burk that scored Kyle Prouse.

After two innings, though, is when the Tornadoes started to gradually build their lead. The Bruins made some defensive plays and helped the pitchers get out of a couple jams. After the Tornadoes scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings, it was the seventh inning where they piled it on. They were able to add four runs to their lead making it 10-1.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bruins were able to load the bases and gave themselves a big chance to make a dent in the deficit. Evan Johnson was hit by a pitch which brought one in to score, but the Bruins could not capitalize any further. The biggest weakness for the Bruins in the loss was stranding runners in scoring position.

The Bruins now stand at 2-11 on the season heading into a weekend series with Paine College. They play on Friday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m. in Augusta, Georgia.
