The Bob Jones University Bruins opened the weekend with an 8-1 loss on the road to Paine College. With today's result, the team now sits at 2-12 on the season.
"The defense played solid today. We jumped on them in the first inning and it seemed to relax everyone," said Head Coach Kyle Morrison.
He continued saying, "we've got to eliminate giving up the free bases. We couldn't get the ball to find some green today. We genuinely had about seven lineouts. The team just needs to stick to the process, and Lord willing we'll start getting some hits."
As Friday's game got underway, the Bruins got on the board early thanks to an RBI single from Cody Kirkpatrick to bring Max Lucien across home plate. The Lions responded in the bottom of the inning and recorded four runs. They scored all of their runs on two outs with the help of a three run home run.
A double play by the Bruins defense kept the Lions off the board in the second inning.
Paine College recorded another home run in the third inning to make it 5-1. They added two more runs in the fifth inning and wrapped up their scoring with one more run in the seventh inning.
Looking to make a late run in the game, the Bruins were unable get any runners home as they left two stranded in the top of the eighth. David Twiddy opened the final inning with a lead off single. David Medina hit the ball into a double play to conclude the game.
Paine led the game 13 hits to the Bruins five in a final 8-1 score.
The Bruins and Lions are back in action in Augusta, Georgia on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
