The Bob Jones University baseball team fell to a tough Montreat College team Tuesday afternoon from Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina. With the 18-3 loss, the Bruins now sit at 6-16 on the season.
"Today was a rough day," said Head Coach Kyle Morrison. "Our pitching gave up 13 free bases for Montreat College, and they're a really solid team that made us pay for our mistakes. Our bats were flat and our energy was low. We've got two days to learn how to be more intentional with our approach at the plate and on the mound. This is a big weekend for us."
As today's game got underway, Montreat College opened the contest with a single home run to put the first run on the board. The Cavaliers had a big second inning at the plate as they added six more runs to their total.
Heading into the bottom of the second inning, the Bruins trailed 7-1. Cody Kirkpatrick singled to open the inning for Bob Jones. After Gabe Gearhart came on to courtesy run for Kirkpatrick, Bryson French came up to the plate and singled. The two advanced bases as Sam Gonzalez grounded out to the pitcher. On a wild pitch, Gearhart ran home to put the Bruins on the board.
Montreat College tallied nine more runs through the third and fourth innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, Sam Gonzalez scored for the Bruins to add another run. Angelo Gomez added the final run for Bob Jones as the team fell in a final result of 18-3 to the Cavaliers.
At the finish of the contest, the Bruins recorded three runs on six hits while the Cavaliers tallied 18 runs, 16 hits, and two errors.
Up next, the Bruins are back for a weekend series at Conestee Park as they take on NCCAA opponent Toccoa Falls College.
