The Bob Jones University women's soccer team opened their 2025 season campaign at home against Spartanburg Methodist College. After 90 minutes of action, the game resulted in a 0-0 draw from Alumni Stadium.
"We need to improve in areas of possession, balance, and shape, but it's early in the season for us," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We've only had a couple full days of preseason training, but there was a lot of good stuff I saw especially in the first half. It was a good effort against a good Spartanburg Methodist team. I think it's a positive start for us."
Monday's home opener for the Bruins kicked off at 2 p.m. from Alumni Stadium. The Pioneers gained early possession looking to find a break in the Bruins defense. The Bruins held on before working their way to the offensive zone and putting the pressure back on the Pioneers. At the halftime break, the two teams remained knotted at zero.Â
In the second half, both teams looked to break the deadlock but couldn't capitalize. After a hard-fought 90 minutes of play, the match ended in a 0-0 draw.Â
Following the game, Coach Carmichael said, "the big thing right now is getting everyone on the same page. We need to get our new players adapted to our style of play. They did a lot better job this game, and I think they're starting to get a good picture of what we want this to look like."
Up next, the Bruins travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina for a pair of contests against NCAA DIII opponents at the NCWU/Meredith Classic. They will face Meredith College Friday afternoon before quickly turning around to play North Carolina Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon.Â
