The women's volleyball team played to a 3-0 victory against Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday in Charlotte, North Carolina. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 5-8 on the season.
Today's game marked the 17th meeting between the Bruins and Wildcats. After losing to JWU twice in their first two matches in 2016, the Bruins have dominated the series and have now won 15 straight, only allowing the Wildcats to win three total sets during that time.Â
From the beginning of today's contest, the Bruins started out strong as they quickly pulled to a 5-0 lead. Their lead held, and soon the Bruins were leading 22-10. After a timeout by the Wildcats, they capitalized and scored seven straight points to close the gap. In the end, the Bruins were able to close out set one with a 25-18 win.Â
After keeping it close and exchanging points to open the second set, the Bruins pulled ahead to a sizable 12-5 lead. Their advantage held, and they finished on top 25-18 to lead the match 2-0.
It was all Bob Jones once again as the Bruins quickly moved to a sizable advantage to begin the third set. The Bruins didn't let off the gas and completed the 3-0 sweep with a 25-15 set victory.Â
With today's win, the Bruins now lead the all-time series 15-2 against the Wildcats.Â
"We were pleased how we started off strong in each set," said Coach Christa Schlichting following the match. "Johnson & Wales had some good defensive plays that pushed us to have to earn those last few points of every set. The team continues to improve on keeping the lead when the opponent tries to take the momentum. Tonight was another good team win, and we're thankful for that."
Up next, the Bruins travel to Georgia on Thursday for another region contest against Toccoa Falls College.
