The Bruins hit the road Wednesday night, taking on Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Bruins came up short in straight sets.


Spartanburg Methodist got off to a quick start and took an early 4-0 lead. The Pioneers continued to distance themselves and found themselves leading by 13 points 20-7. The Bruins worked to claw at the deficit going on a 5-0 scoring run late in the game, but it wasn't enough as they fell 25-15 in the opening set. 

The Bruins and Pioneers kept it close in the second set. With both teams trading points and 13 ties in the frame, the Bruins looked poised to even the match. The Bruins held set point late, but the Pioneers rallied to steal the second set 26-24.

The Bruins refused to give up and once again kept the third set close against the Pioneers. But despite a late push, the Pioneers finished out the set on top 25-22 to seal the sweep.

Hannah Goodwin led the Bruins with 10 kills followed by Stefanie Burke with seven on the night. 

Up next, the Bruins travel to North Carolina for a Saturday tri-match against North Carolina Wesleyan and Pfeiffer University.
