Bruins Earn 3-1 Win Over Carolina University

The Bob Jones University Bruins volleyball team put together a complete performance on Tuesday, earning a 3-1 victory over Carolina University inside the Davis Field House. With today's victory, the Bruins improve to 7-11 on the season.

After honoring nine of our volleyball team's MVPs, or Most Valuable Professors, BJU got off to a strong start in Tuesday's battle of the Bruins going 5-1 to start the match. The Bruins pulled away late in the opening set and recorded six straight points to earn the 25-17 set one win.

Carolina responded in set two to even the match with a 25-21 decision.

In the third, the BJU Bruins answered back and took a slight lead before the CU Bruins battled back to cut at the deficit. In the end, Bob Jones powered through and finished on top 25-19 to take the 2-1 match lead.

The momentum continued for the home team, and they closed out the match with their strongest frame of the afternoon, hitting .256 as a unit to seal a 25-17 set win in the fourth.

Stefanie Burke led the offensive with 10 kills in the match with Hannah Goodwin adding eight and Lyndsey Cassell totaling seven. Anne Lloyd recorded 19 digs on the night to help the team's defensive efforts.

"We knew we were going to have to play really good defense in this match against a solid Carolina team," said Coach Christa Schlichting. "We were able to keep balls in play which helped us keep the score close. Our goal was to have a strong start and compete with consistency. I am proud of this team and how they stepped up in this match."

Schlichting continued saying, "it was a joy to kick off our home game by honoring our team's Most Valuable Professors. We love our faculty and staff at BJU!"

The Bruins are back home again on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. rematch against Spartanburg Methodist College.
