The Bruins clashed with region opponent Toccoa Falls College to begin the semester and could not pull out a victory losing 87-81.
After the opening tip, both teams started ice cold from the field and neither team scored for nearly the first three minutes of the game. It was Drew Cannon who scored first for the Bruins over four minutes into the game. For the majority of the first half, the Bruins struggled to make their jumpers with most their points coming in the paint. The Bruins trailed the whole half, but kept it close. The Screaming Eagles made shots at the important times and they went into halftime with a seven point lead.
The second half resumed the same kind of battles that the first half had. Toccoa Falls never held a lead of larger than eight points. The Bruins continued to battle back off a great second half by Shad Vander Hart and Bryson Felder. The Bruins tied the game with just over seven minutes remaining, but they could not take the lead. After a small run by the Screaming Eagles, the Bruins found themselves down eight again, but fought to tie it back up with about a minute left. Despite the comeback, the Bruins couldn't score inside the final minute and fell captive to made free throws by Toccoa Falls. The final score was 87-81
Bryson Felder led the Bruins with 21 points followed by Shad Vander Hart with 17 and Drew Cannon with 16.Â
"Rebounds were the big difference tonight," Head Coach Tony Miller said after the loss. Toccoa Falls won the rebound battle 37-21. They had 10 second chance points that came from those rebounds.
Despite the close conference loss, the Bruins now look ahead to Saturday where they host Pensacola Christian College at 7:00 p.m. in the Davis Field House. They look forward to playing in front of their home crowd again.
