Lydia Howell Named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week

Lydia Howell has been named NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week for women's soccer after two stellar performances against region opponents last week.

"Lydia has picked up the goal-scoring torch for the team and has been absolutely amazing on both sides of the ball," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "She has an extra gear and is extremely motivated around the 18 to score goals. Lydia has been scoring 'golazos' and is a constant threat and has been a huge lift for our team. She has been a great leader by not only leading by example but demanding more from her team as well. She is also a relentless defender and that has created a number of counter-attacks that have resulted in important goals."

Howell may have put herself in the front of the Region Player of the Year race this week with six total goals leading the Bruins to two region wins. Against the University of Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles, she made her presence known right away with all four of her goals coming in the first 21 minutes of the match. Against Trinity College of Jacksonville, she scored a goal in the first half and the second half to put the Eagles away and out of reach.

Lydia Howell and the Bruins now look to close the final two weeks of the regular season with four quality matches. Their next match is Wednesday, October 14 when they go to Brevard College to take on the Tornados.
