Bruins Shutout Eagles to Win 2-0 in Region Play

A brace from Lydia Howell secured a 2-0 victory for the Bob Jones University Bruins over their NCCAA South Region opponents, Trinity College of Jacksonville Friday evening from Alumni Stadium. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 3-4-3 on the season and 2-1 in region competition.

"This is a game we've been working towards, and it feels good to see our hard work pay off," said Annabelle Gaddis. "I am proud of this group and the way we showed up today. This is just the start of what's to come!"

As today's game got underway from Alumni Stadium, the Bruins were back on the field against the Eagles. The two programs met a few weeks ago in Florida where TCJ pulled out the 1-0 win over Bob Jones.

After some early looks by the Bruins, Lydia Howell got the Bruins on the board in the 16th minute to put the Bruins ahead early. The Bruins continued to pepper the Eagles net with shots, but the 1-0 result held as the two teams went into halftime.

In the second half, the Bruins came out strong with early corner kicks and shots. They put away their second goal in the 67th minute as a perfectly timed pass from Amelia Peters set up Lydia Howell who was wide open in front of the goal to notch her second goal of the contest.

At the final buzzer, it was the Bruins on top in the 2-0 win. The team finished with 17 total shots and 11 of them on frame.

Following the game, Head Coach Chris Carmichael shared his thoughts saying, "although we sputtered a bit getting a solid rhythm of play in the first half, we were still able to generate another fantastic goal from Lydia Howell on a perfect assist by Amelia Peters. The team really stepped up in the second half and applied relentless pressure and had control of the game and began creating more and more scoring opportunities until Lydia Howell notched her second of the night. Lydia has been amazing in the attacking third and the rest of the team has been improving with each game and so much appreciate their hard work in developing as a team. We are still a work in progress but we continue to get stronger at the right time and the improvement has been very obvious."

Amelia Peters said, "we really brought the intensity today and did a great job winning the 50/50 balls and keeping possession. They definitely challenged us, but I think we handled the pressure well and played together as a team. It feels good to walk away with a 2-0 win!"

Up next, the Bruins go on the road to face Brevard College in a mid-week matchup on October 14.
