Bruins Defend Home Court with 60-55 Senior Day Win

The Bob Jones University women's basketball team closed out its 2025-26 home slate in fitting fashion Saturday afternoon, holding off Toccoa Falls College for a 60-55 Senior Day victory.

Prior to the start of Saturday's contest, the Bruins honored the three seniors, Shelby Epperson, Faith McClary, and Anna Layne Wylder, for their hard work and contributions to the women's basketball program.

The Bruins won the tip-off, and as Anna Layne Wylder dribbled down the court, she passed the ball to Shelby Epperson, who got the Bruins on the board. After a basket by the Screaming Eagles, the Bruins went on a seven-point run to lead 9-2. Toccoa Falls answered and took the lead before buckets by Jenna Brooks and Keely Price tied the game at the end of ten minutes.

In the second quarter, the two teams kept it close. The Bruins put up 18 points in the frame to lead 32-29 at halftime.

It was another back-and-forth effort after the halftime break with several lead changes. The Bruins shot 44% from the field and went 3-8 from the three-point line to outshoot the Screaming Eagles 17-15 and lead by five after 30 minutes of play.

As the final quarter got underway, the Bruins saw their lead slip away, and with 5:10 left on the clock, trailed the Screaming Eagles 55-49. It was all Wylder down the final stretch as the senior put up three straight three-pointers and back-to-back free throws to close out the win for the Bruins 60-55.

Wylder led the Bruins with 19 points on the game, followed by a season high 12 points for Savannah Taylor.

"It was a gritty performance tonight," said Assistant Coach Gracen Ledford. "We came out of the game with the right mindset and battled the rest of the way. We stayed poised even when Toccoa went on runs, and we made some clutch shots in the final stretch."

Ledford continued saying, "I am grateful for our seniors and their contributions on and off the court. I am proud of who they are and the culture they have helped form."

Also speaking of today's game was Assistant Coach Sha'Ron Brunson. "I am proud of our seniors and the impact they have had on our program. They led the way today, and we had good composure down the stretch to finish the game."

The Bruins will close out the regular season with a road game at Warren Wilson College on Monday afternoon before making the trip down to Toccoa Falls, Georgia for the NCCAA DII South Region Tournament at the end of the week.
